HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALFIE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALFIE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALFIE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALFIE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!

My baby is 1 today. He's into whole numbers now. Here are some quick snaps:

This is his main pressie a Little Tikes car, which he loves and thinks he rules the world in it, well he does the house...
This is Big Bro pressie: Night Garden DVDs.
As soon as Iggle Piggle (don't quote me he's the blue one) came onto the screen he was lost into the realms of TV.
If it has wheels on he loves it. He got some Bob Builder characters and this is where Lofty has been alot of today.

Proud Mum moment:
Alfie adores Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
We sing it alot and if I stop he sings it...
...but today he went a step further,
it came on TV and he started to sing along.
It's recognisable by the "Tw" and "ar" sounds.
Thanks for popping by.

Laptop covers

Well, Charlie and myself were getting bored of our black laptops. It is alot of black, they are both the same and we wanted them to be different:

This is Charlies...
We are BIG Gruffalo fans in this house, in fact anything by this lady is fantastic.
The Monkey Puzzle and Squash & Squeeze are fantastic and have very clever messages.

This is mine...I wanted a story book effect.
This one used the gorgeous Paperchase wrapping paper. The deer is an enlarged version of the Sassafrass fawned of you paper range.
These are so easy to create...using good old sticky back plastic.

OTHER NEWS THIS WEEK:
Tim is now a year older.
Alfie is becoming a little person with the funniest personality.
Charlie performed his lines and dance in assembly perfectly.
In todays Mass he was a disciple but we had to leave early because Alfie is such a chatterbox and it's not fair to the children who have practised their lines.
I saw a perfect rainbow and it was a double: one above the other...amazing.
Charlie has tidied his bedroom and is having a friend to sleep over Easter half term.
History project finished and handed in fingers crossed for good mark.
Everyone in our house is getting excited because a certain person in our house is becoming the big ONE.

a Layout:

Don't be shocked, it's true. Not a recent one but forgot to post when finished:
The photo has been cropped and enlarge to show Alfies expression, which says it all.
These 2 have such a great bond and they do make me smile.

It was a quick and simple layout to put together and the circles are punched from paperchase wrapping paper using the sissix see through circle die.
Acetate letters are QK Blossom alpha the edges have been rubbed with acrylic paint then placed onto paper while still tacky (saves trying to find adhesive).
Thanks for looking.

It was a CRAZY day...

...well a CRAZY HATs day.
We have a local charity called CRAZY HATS Appeal and they raise alot of money for Breast Cancer. They recently purchased a new machine for the local hospital so you actually know the money is being put to good use.
Every year they do a 5 mile walk around Wicksteed park wearing a Crazy hat and Charlie did it this year with his Nanny.
We (me and Alfie, dad was working) were going to meet him and cheer him on. I say "Were going to" because Alfie fell asleep when he left and woke just as he rang to say he'd finished.
He did it in 1hour 45mins.
And got his first ever medal.
VERY proud of him, and his decorated hat which he did all by himself.

WELL DONE CHARLIE.
XXX

PS: Someone asked if the folder in the last post FROM THE HEART was a QK one. It is a Goosebumpz folder from the QK LOVE set.
PPS: The soldier is a Queens Guard (I think don't quote me) he's a very special limited edition figure Playmobil from Harrods many years ago. He did lose his gun to a hoover.
Thanks for noticing him.

A layout

Charlie took this photo of us and even though it isn't perfect it's one of my favourites.
The sun peeping through the top left shines a light over alfie making him look like a cherub.
The fact the photo is slightly out of focus gives it softness.
I love that I am kissing Alfies head and my hand shows I am hugging him tight to me,
it hasn't been cropped it's how Charlie saw us through the lens.
It's a moment of calm in the madness of life when you have crawling baby.
Plus because I am behind the camera it's rare to get one of me.

I tried to go with a collagey effect here. Lots of texture. Lots of layers.
I am pleased with the effect (if I do say so myself LOL).
I didn't want the photo to get lost so the little stamped a next to the photo draws your eye in without realising it.
The 3 name plates are embossed (2x2 QK folder) then cut out.
The 2 red/white ones have been distressed by rubbing the edges with my knife blade (scissor prob safer).  Using glue stick glue small pieces of the edge and flock them.
The middle one has been made with the same embossing die using white core cardstock.
Emboss the phrase first (QK LOVE set) before the frame or the pressure of the blank space inside the frame flattens the phrase. Leave the card on the embossing plate to sand it. Lastly scrape the edges.
The heart took alot time but I enjoyed making it.

HOW TO MAKE THE HEART:
You will need: patterned paper (I used Cosmo Cricket), 3 heart punches in different sizes, LOVE word stamp, flocking powder, scissors, glue dots, glue stick.
I decided to have the large heart dark blue, middle size yellow and small one red. After selecting the papers wanted punch out hearts. I did about 20 of each (left over ones could be card toppers or future embellishments).
Screw up each cut out heart, then lay on the table and rub sanding block over the top (could use emery board or sandpaper if don't have sanding block) this brings out the creases and creates a distressed effect.
Glue dot them and layer on top of each other.
On another piece of plain paper (I used pale blue) stamp the word love many times, I did this in a grid like fashion, making sure you have room to fit the heart between the words.
Glue dot the layered heart placing the bottom of the heart over the Vin the word LOVE. Trim around the heart in a rectangle shape.
On scrap paper (you won't see this under finished design) hand draw a large heart and cut out. Make sure you play around with how you want the hearts placed BEFORE the next step.
Cover the cut out heart in glue, then place on top of this all the rectangle shapes.
This next step will be the red heart in the above photo:
On the back of patterned paper draw a heart slightly smaller than one already have and cut it out making it slightly thicker than pencil line.
With the glue stick randomly glue in places along the edge. while glue still sticky press into a pile of flocking powder (found this way works easiest for me but feel free to let me know your opinion).
Glue over the top of finished piece.
Voila.

Thanks for looking hope you haven't fell asleep.

It's shocking I know...

...I am doing a blog post.
Well, it was my first Mothers Day with 2 children.
And as Charlie wrote in his card: I have now been a mother for a decade.
I was spoilt rotten as usual...breakfast in bed...a song sang and wrote by Charlie himself...presents and cards...What more could I ask for.
Caught these two having a "moment" but they noticed camera.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the weather has perked up we had a visit to the park to feed the ducks and Alfie met a new friend;Sophia. The littlle lady Kaylee nannys for. More pictures here:

The park visit actually resulted in a decent photo of me (these are limited LOL)

Thanks for looking. Hope you all had good weekend :)

8 March 2010

People are so kind.

Children just don't wear uniform anymore:
WORLD BOOK DAY:

I sent this Horrid (Henry) boy off to school on friday. He hates this photo but he has the other 2 on his blog.
Also i think he's cute in it but can't believe how grown up he looks. Arrgghh

VICTORIAN DAY:

I sent this serious child off today for a trip to Holdenby House.
He isn't smiling because Victorian people didn't smile in their photos.

And because I love this one...
Hope he has fun. He was so excited to be wearing this outfit, he wouldn't wear his coat in -1 temperatures (he did have thick scarf on and woolly gloves but they were Victorian looking his coat wasn't)

Back online...please bear with me...

Well an 11 month old, glass of water and computer modem DO NOT go together.

Alfie is becoming a monkey he stands at Tims computer desk throwing everything on the floor.
In this instance Tim told him No so he waved his arms, then hit the table (temper tantrums already!!) this resulted in the glass of water throwing itself into internet modem.

Man came today and fixed problem, thankfully didn't have to wait too long.

Alfie...well in Tims words "I know what it was like bringing me up now"
